Tom Crawford


Educated – Music degree, Indiana University.  Studied with sax virtuoso Eugene Rousseau and jazz great David Baker.

Tom’s first DC area band was the “SMASH Band” that was the house band for radio station DC 101 and performed shows with the Greaseman.  He was a founding member of the “Eva Cassidy Band” and toured Europe with “Chuck Brown and the Soul Searchers.”  With the “Bobby Parker Blues Band,” he performed on stage with Carlos Santana.  In the DC area, he was a member of “Jr. Cline and the Recliners” and later played with  “Mary Lou and the Untouchables” in the Baltimore area. 

Tom has recorded with all of the above groups and many local groups on their projects.  He is on albums by “Experience Unlimited,” played local commercials and studio sessions for various artists. 

Currently, Tom is a member of the “Hank Levy Legacy Band” that performs the works of Towson’s late jazz professor Hank Levy.  Hank Levy was a composer for the “Don Ellis Big Band,” Stan Kenton, and others.   This Legacy Band is a rehearsal band full of top area big band players who are keeping alive Hank’s music, much of which is poly-metered and pure concert jazz.  Tom’s been involved since the late summer 2008 as 1st tenor. The band performs only at the approval of Hank’s family.
